Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company founded in 2002 with the vocation of becoming the first vertically-integrated 100%-renewable energy operator on the Iberian Peninsula, continues to move forward to ensure the development of its clean energy project in Galicia.
The Regional Department for the Economy at the Xunta (Galicia’s Regional Government) has announced that it is submitting the application for permission for its second wind farm in Galicia to public consultation: Maragouto. Located in the province of Corunna, it will have an installed power of 35 megawatts (MW) and involves an investment of almost €44,000,000.
The 10 wind turbines in this Capital Energy wind farm will be capable of supplying 114,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy, equivalent to the consumption of more than 42,500 homes in Galicia, and preventing the annual emission of more than 45,600 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The Maragouto wind farm, in the municipal districts of Outes and Mazaricos, will also stimulate the creation of more than 80 jobs during its construction stage and will have an annual financial impact on regional (wind fees) and local (property tax and trade tax) coffers, and also through leasing agreements, of around €263,000. €1,620,000, which is the one-off payment for the tax on construction, installations and building works (ICIO), can be added to this recurring sum.
Recently, the Regional Department for the Economy also submitted the Company’s first wind farm in Galicia, Banzas, to public consultation. Located in Outes, Mazaricos and Negreira, it will have an installed power of 31 MW, will be capable of supplying clean energy to 32,000 homes and will involve and investment of almost €40,000,000.
Both of these wind farms represent a clear demonstration of the Company’s commitment to the region, where it envisages investing around €85,000,000 in the short term which, amongst other benefits, will stimulate the creation of more than 160 jobs during the construction stage. It should also be pointed out that Capital Energy has an office in the municipal district of Ames which already has 12 employees, some of whom come from the three areas where Banzas and Maragouto are to be constructed: Outes, Mazaricos and Negreira.
Nowadays, Capital Energy has 40 renewable energy projects in Galicia, which are all wind-based, spread over the four provinces. All together they total over 1,100 MW, and their development will involve a global investment of approximately €780,000,000.
