The first 100% renewable vertically integrated electricity firm on the Iberian Peninsula
We are transforming the energy sector
Capital Energy is a Spanish Company that came into being almost 20 years ago. Initially it was a wind and solar energy developer.
Recently, because of the launch of our retailing arm, we have reached our strategic aim of being present along the entire renewable energy generation value chain. The goal is to take the 100% renewable energy that we produce in our own wind and solar installations in Spain and Portugal to the end consumer.

Nearly 20 years committed to renewable energy
Capital Energy was incorporated in 2002 by Jesús Martín Buezas with the aim of promoting the development of renewable energy, within the framework of its firm commitment to sustainable energy.
Our Company reached its strategic aim to be present on the entire renewable energy value chain in 2020: from development, where the Company has a consolidated position, to construction, production, storage, operation and supply.
Jesús Martín Buezas incorporated Capital Energy for the purpose of driving the then emerging renewable energy sector, convinced, with pioneering vision, of its enormous potential to transform the energy model.
2003 – 2005
The first steps
We took our first steps as a firm in the field of off-shore wind energy, applying for official permission to develop a 300-megawatt (MW) project in Spain. During these years we went as far as applying for permission to kick-start up to 2,300 MW offshore.
Spreading our wings
We began our incursion into the various onshore renewable energy technologies, developing wind farms (875 W), solar (115 MW) and thermosolar (100 MW) farms, as well as biodiesel facilities.
We began our international expansion in Romania, where we started to develop onshore wind projects. We also obtained ratification of almost 1,750 MW for offshore wind projects, pursuant to Royal Decree 1028/2007.
Markets with huge potential
We incorporated a subsidiary in Poland and entered onshore wind markets in countries with huge potential such as India and Mexico. We also continued to expand our portfolio of Spanish projects.
Landing in the USA
We started up in the USA and began to develop our first wind projects in Poland.
2009 – 2015
Focusing on Spain…
We changed strategic direction and decided to let go of the various international activities to concentrate on the Spanish project portfolio.
...and also on Portugal
We began our project development activities in Spain’s neighbour and started to adapt the Company to make the most of the opportunities offered since 2016 by Spanish renewable energy bidding processes.
350 projects on the Iberian Peninsula
With more than 350 projects at various stages of development, we became one of the biggest renewable energy developers on the Iberian Peninsula, with wind farms and solar farms.
100% renewable and vertically integrated
• We presented an ambitious business plan with the aim of becoming the top vertically integrated 100% renewable energy firm; • We announced that we shall invest €10 billion until 2025, to have 13,000 MW operational with a 30 GW project portfolio; • We launched our 100% clean electric energy retail arm; • We adhere to the United Nations Global Pact.
